Welcome, Principal Almquist!
The FCPS Region 1 Office is proud to announce that Stephanie Almquist, current Assistant Principal at Herndon Elementary School, has been selected as the new Principal of Clearview Elementary School.
Ms. Almquist is a caring and dedicated school-based leader with a total of 28 years of teaching and leadership experience. In 1993, Ms. Almquist started her career in education as a Health and Physical Education (HPE) teacher in Prince William County Public Schools. In 1999, she started in FCPS at Churchill Road Elementary School as an HPE teacher. In 2007, she was selected as a LEAD Administrative Intern at Garfield Elementary School.
In 2008, Ms. Almquist was selected as an assistant principal at Hybla Valley Elementary School. As an instructional leader, she supervised grade level and curricular teams. Ms. Almquist created professional development opportunities based on collaborative learning teams (CLTs), identified needs, and created and implemented a co-teaching support system for new teachers. She also led the school’s Human Relations Committee which analyzed the school’s climate survey results and used its findings to develop a mentor system for new staff.
In 2014, Ms. Almquist transferred to Annandale Terrace Elementary School as an assistant principal. Under her leadership, grade level teams improved student achievement in reading and closed reading achievement gaps. Ms. Almquist also created professional development opportunities based on CLT and school improvement and innovation plan identified needs that included Critical and Creative Thinking Strategies, Guided Reading, and Balanced Literacy.
In 2016, Ms. Almquist was selected as an educational specialist in the FCPS Office of Professional Learning and Family Engagement, Title I Office. In this role she guided and mentored school administrators, coaches, and teachers in targeted schools. She also developed and implemented a school support plan for Title I schools in literacy, math, social studies, and science. Working with parents throughout the county, Ms. Almquist also facilitated the FCPS district-wide, Title I Parent Advisory Committee to inform central office and school board members on Title I family engagement and advocacy needs.
In 2017, Ms. Almquist was selected as an assistant principal at Herndon Elementary School. She worked as the instructional leader for Literacy, Math, Special Education, Science, Social Studies, ESOL, and 1st, 4th, and 5th grade teams. Ms. Almquist oversaw the change of the immersion program from French to Two-Way Spanish Immersion. She also refined the support processes to align with FCPS expectations and to create a culture of collective responsibility.
Ms. Almquist received her Bachelor of Science in Education, Master of Teaching, and Education Specialist degree from the University of Virginia. We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Almquist to the Clearview Elementary School Community. She will build strong relationships with parents, guardians, students, and community partners while ensuring that each student meets their goals and has a successful school year.
