Ms. Almquist is a proud alumni of Fairfax County Public Schools.  She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from The University of Virginia.  She has been an educator for over 27 years. 

Ms. Almquist started her career in Prince William County as a Board of Medicine Certified Athletic Trainer (sports medicine) and teacher.  During that time she created the Sports Medicine program and curriculum for the school while also serving as the liaison for athletic trainers to central office.  In 1999, she transferred to FCPS as an elementary physical educator at Churchill Road. 

In 2007,  Ms. Almquist was selected as a LEAD Administrative Intern at Garfield Elementary School.  She continued her administration journey as an assistant principal at Hybla Valley Elementary School, Annandale Terrace Elementary School, and most recently at Herndon Elementary school. As an instructional leader, she supervised grade level and curricular teams, created professional development opportunities, and refined systems of supports which lead to improved students achievement in reading, math, social studies and science.

Ms. Almquist believes in and has prioritized providing access and opportunity to all children so they can soar.  She believes this is done by creating a supportive environment built on a foundation of strong relationships where there is a sense of belonging for students staff and families.
